Vetiver essential oil is one of aromatherapy’s most grounding and emotionally stabilizing oils. While some find it intense at first, many grow to love vetiver for its ability to calm the nervous system and create a sense of emotional steadiness. Often referred to as the "oil of tranquility", vetiver is especially valued for stress relief, sleep support, emotional balance, and skin care. Unlike lighter floral or citrus oils, vetiver anchors blends and slows racing thoughts, making it a favorite in evening and meditation formulas. This deeply rooted oil has been used for centuries in traditional practices across Asia and the Caribbean. Vetiver is unique among essential oils because it works slowly and deeply. Rather than providing an immediate lift, it gently settles the body and mind.
Origin & Production
The essential oil is steam distilled from the washed, dried, and chopped roots of vetiveria zizanoides grown using conventional agriculture. Unlike many essential oils that come from leaves or flowers, vetiver's therapeutic value lies underground. The plant's deep roots contribute to the oil’s rich, earthy aroma.
With roots growing to the depth of 3-4 meters in a year, vetiver very effective in the prevention of soil erosion, especially when grown on the slopes in the areas affected by monsoons and heavy rain falls.
Aroma
The aroma is a rich and unique blend of smokey, earthy, woody, sweet, deep, and warm. The oil ranges from amber to olive brown in colour and becomes thicker and smoother with age. Vetiver oil is known to improve over time, with its aroma becoming softer and more complex.
