Ravintsara is a unique essential oil produced by steam distilling the leaves of the camphor tree, meaning, “tree with good leaves,” in the Malagasy language. When you open a bottle, the scent is bright and clarifying, with a cool camphor-like quality that seems to open the airways almost instantly. The oil is recognised for supporting respiratory comfort and overall resilience. It is often used in diffusers during colder months or blended into chest rubs when breathing feels heavy or congested. Although it shares aromatic similarities with eucalyptus, Ravintsara has its own personality. It is often described as gentler and more rounded.

Origin & Production

Ravintsara is distilled from the leaves of Cinnamomum camphora organically grown in Madagascar. This is important, because the same species grown in other regions can produce very different oils depending on climate and soil conditions. The Madagascar variety produces an oil rich in 1,8 cineole, also known as eucalyptol. This compound is responsible for its fresh, clearing aroma. True Ravintsara should not be confused with Ravensara, which comes from a different plant entirely.

Aroma

Ravintsara essential oil has a clean, penetrating aroma that feels fresh, slightly spicy, and reminiscent of eucalyptus. The aroma strength is considered medium to strong, so only small amounts are needed in blends.
