Blue Sage Smudge Stick
Blue Sage Smudge Stick
Experience the powerful cleansing and purifying properties of this beautiful Blue Sage Smudge Stick. Hand-tied and dried blue sage, this spiritual tool is used for smudging and purifying ceremonies, releasing negative energy and promoting positivity. Native American tribes have long utilized this blue or purple flowering sage for its sacred qualities.
Blue Sage and White Sage are both used in spiritual and sacred healing practices, but they have some differences:
Appearance and Scent:
White Sage (Salvia apiana) has pale leaves and a very strong scent when burned. It has a smooth texture.
Blue Sage (Salvia clevelandii, Salvia azurea, or Salvia pachyphylla) is less common and is generally considered milder in fragrance than white sage. It has a sweeter and milder scent that is often described as floral or spicy. It is more hairy and has a rough texture compared to white sage.
Uses:
White Sage is often used for cleansing and purifying an area
Blue Sage is often used similarly to white sage, to cleanse and protect. It is less pungent, and its soothing scent and “cool” nature make it very helpful in rituals for healing and abundance. It is also a good choice for cleansing and preparing meditation spaces.
While both types of sage are used for similar purposes, the choice between blue sage and white sage often comes down to personal preference and the specific needs of the ritual or ceremony. If you find the scent of white sage too strong, you might prefer the milder, more floral scent of blue sage.
Safety advice when using smudges:
Provide a fireproof bowl or abalone shell. Light the end of the bundle and fan it for a while so that the flame goes out and the bundle continues to smoulder.
If the smudge is tightly bundled, blow extra to keep the herbs smouldering properly. With this smouldering bundle, perform the smudge ceremony. Make sure the fireproof bowl is kept under the smudge bundle at all times.
After the end of the session or ceremony, you can extinguish the bundle again in a bowl of sand (check carefully that it is actually out) and keep the bundle for another use.
The smudge stick is c. 10 cm long and weighs 30-35 grams.
