Flying Wild Frankincense & Lavender and Chamomile & Lavender Reflexology Creams are handmade using Organic Lavender Floral Water. But what is Lavender Floral Water, how is it made, where does it come from, and what are it's properties?
The Organic Lavandula Angustifolia Flower Water I work with, is made from organically grown French lavender. During the steam distillation process of creating lavender essential oil, the water that is used to steam the lavender flowers is drawn off and collected. This water contains the therapeutic benefits of the original plant material, and it is this water that is known as the Floral Water, Hydrolat, or Hydrosol. Lavender floral water smells like a deeper, earthier version of Lavender Essential Oil.
The use of lavender essential oil and lavender floral water goes back to ancient Egypt, and it's use has been documented for at least 2500 years. The ancient Egyptians used lavender for mummification and perfume. The Ancient Greeks used lavender medicinally to relieve insomnia, back aches, and many other ailments. Romans used lavender oil and floral water in medicine, cooking, bathing, scenting the air, and soap making. The name 'Lavender' is derived from the Latin verb lavare—which means, “to wash.” The Romans carried lavender with them throughout their Empire, spreading it's use and cultivation. It is from this time that lavender has been grown in England. In Medieval and Renaissance times, washer women were known as “lavenders.” Clothes were washed in lavender and laid to dry on lavender bushes. Lavender was widely used to perfume the air, ward off infection, and heal wounds. From Eyptian times until today it has been recognized for it's many antiseptic, soothing, and healing qualities.
The therapeutic benefits of Lavender Floral Water are many and varied. The main properties are
- analgesic (pain relieving)
- soothing and calming
The water is strongly soothing and will cool and ease sunburn, insect bites, rashes, and itching. In skincare Lavender Floral Water is famed for it's regenerative and effects on damaged or fragile skin. Lavender floral water is recognised for it's ability to reduce headaches, ease stress, mental fatigue, and aid restful sleep.
Flying Wild creams are made using organic floral waters only, this uniquely sets them apart from other creams, which are typically made with distilled water. Basing the creams on organic hydrosols infuses them with the beneficial properties of the water-soluble and essential oil molecules that flow through the plant. In doing so Flying Wild Reflexology Creams are formulated to support healing, help achieve the desired therapeutic outcome, and nourish and care for your, and your client's, skin - as well as giving you the perfect balance of grip, control, and slip.
I hope you will love working with the creams in your wonderful treatments.
