Hemp Seed Oil Ingredient Profile

Known as nature's most perfectly balanced oil, Hemp Seed Oil provides number of impressive benefits. When used on the skin it soothes and heals dry skin, reduces inflammation, replenishes moisture, as well strengthening and protecting the skin. Along with essential fatty acids, hemp seed oil contains high levels of vitamins, minerals, and amino acids.

The fatty acid ratio of 3:1 omega-6 linoleic acid (55%) and omega-3 alpha linoleic acid (20%) hemp seed oil is considered to be the optimum balance for nutritional and skincare benefits. Hemp Seed Oil also contains a very high level of gamma linoleic acid GLA (5%) and of stearidonic acid SDA (2%). The very high combined levels of linoleic acids give hemp seed oil powerful protective and healing properties. Research has shown hemp seed oil to be highly beneficial for skin conditions such as acne, eczema and psoriasis. This is largely due to the very high levels of GLA and SDA present in the oil. GLA is powerfully anti-inflammatory and supportive of immune response while SDA is known to be effective against atopic dermatitis. The oil has been shown to be strongly anti-bacterial, anti-viral, and anti-fungal. Studies has shown hemp seed oil to be highly inhibitive for the development of a number of bacteria including Staphylococcus Aureus. Research indicates that hemp seed oil contributes to stronger skin that is more resistant to viral, bacterial, and fungal infections.

Organic Hemp Seed Oil is derived by cold-pressing the seeds of industrial hemp plants (cannabis sativa). These plants have almost no tetrahydrocannabinol (THC), the psychoactive compound that produces the high associated with weed. The cold pressed unrefined organic oil has a beautiful dark green colour and a distinctive fresh green nutty aroma. Chemically extracted and refined hemp seed oils are easily distinguished as they are clear in colour, and have no aroma. These chemically processed oils do not contain any of the beneficial properties possessed by the organic oil that have been outlined above. The hemp seed oil used by Flying Wild is made from hemp organically grown and naturally extracted in France.

Hemp seed oil on it's own is not really suitable for use as a massage oil. The oil is light and has a high absorption rate leaving quite a dry skin feel, creating a sense of friction between the skin and hands.

Flying Wild reflexology balms are made with a 10% concentration of organic hemp seed oil. The oil gives wonderful skin healing properties to the balms and through its rate of absorption and dry feel contributes significantly to the unique balance of grip and slip provided by Flying Wild reflexology balms.
